Volunteers

The Educator Volunteer Network is seeking skilled, dedicated volunteers to provide one-on-one online mentorship and assistance to educators and schools in war-torn and poverty-stricken regions of the world. Volunteering offers an opportunity to use your skills to genuinely and directly improve education for students in at-risk areas. Join the Educator Volunteer Network to help a teacher, educate a child, and transform a community.

Volunteering with the Educator Volunteer Network requires three-to-five flexible hours per week. Currently, international volunteer mentors are assisting educators and schools in Afghanistan, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda and Liberia, and more schools are joining.

The Educator Volunteer Network needs online assistance from teachers, writers, public relations professionals, web developers, project managers and business leaders; however, we welcome applications from anyone interested. Our volunteers receive training in various subjects and gain experience in fields such as international development, education, diplomacy, business, technology, journalism and coaching. Current volunteers describe their experiences as interesting, challenging, meaningful and rewarding.

Volunteer assistance with the Educator Volunteer Network is focused on:

  • Educational development to improve courses and curriculum. E.g.: Helping a teacher practice English online over Skype, preparing a summary of online courseware providers, or contacting universities about donating instructional assistance.
  • Technology and Infrastructure to find innovative ways to improve school facilities and equipment. E.g.: Preparing a summary of low-power computing or low-cost software options, helping plan for replacing school generators with solar or wind power, or requesting free assistance from architecture firms to design a new school wing.
  • Communications to help schools develop a public presence and share successes and student work, which are vital to school efforts to gain partners and donors. E.g.: Writing text for a school website, creating a school logo or writing a news release about a class graduation.
  • Business and Strategy to help schools plan for reaching more students, increasing revenues, lowering expenses or moving towards self-sustainability. E.g.: Helping prepare a business plan, editing a grant application or helping the school partner with micro-giving programs.

Mentor requirements

Educator Volunteer Network mentors must have relevant professional skills, be fluent in English, have Internet access and be available to volunteer three-to-five hours per week. As mentors work directly with teachers and schools online, they require the initiative, resourcefulness and leadership necessary to work under minimal supervision, while seeking guidance when necessary.

Other volunteer opportunities

Volunteers are also needed to support the Educator Volunteer Network organization itself in a variety of roles, including research, event coordination, media relations and volunteer recruitment. These non-mentorship roles can be tailored to your skills, interests, and availability.

Educator Volunteer Network Ambassadors are also needed to complete quick tasks such as forwarding news stories to community newsletters. Send us you email address through the “EVN Ambassador” section on the right side of this page or email staff@educatorvolunteer.net to learn how you can help schools in five minutes a week.
